In this first presentation, I propose to examine the concept tamim (~ymiT’) in light of the Old Testament literature, in order to determine both the meaning and the characterization that this section of the Bible assigns to the term under study.
A synchronic Old Testament reading could be carried out through one of four approaches: reading the term from the Torah, from the Nevi’im, from the Ketuvim, or through a comprehensive Old Testament perspective. A synchronic reading considers the various contexts in which the word-concept being examined develops. It may also be conducted by tracing the moment in which a term emerges, examining the sociological, linguistic, anthropological, religious, and cultural factors that came together to give rise to its existence.
