The stories about La Violencia turned into a myth about the birth of contemporary Protestantism, its rise from the ashes of La Violencia and emergence as a politically active religious minority. Three works are analyzed in this article: Francisco Ordoñez’s book, History of
Evangelical Christianity in Colombia (1956), for the celebration of the centenary of the Protestant presence in Colombia; James Goff’s book, The Persecution of Protestant Christians in Colombia, 1948-1958 with an investigation of its background and causes (1968) that presents important documentation of cases of affectation of the population for religious reasons; and the doctoral thesis of Augusto Libreros, Conflits Politiques et Luttes Religieuses in Colombie dans la decennie 1948-1958 (1969) completed at the Sorbonne in Paris a year after the publication of Goff’s work, which questions his interpretation of the “religious persecution” against evangelicals. - Downloads
