Abstract

The present work proposes to review the relationship between mission and ecumenical vocation as essential dimensions to the evangelical witness of the church. To accomplish this purpose, it is necessary to recover two basic notions from the biblical witness. In the first place, the mission of the church does not come from itself
but from God. God has a mission in the world and calls the church to collaborate with this mission, which is understood in the Bible as salvation, fullness of life, well-being, justice and peace. Second, this mission has an ecumenical dimension, that is, it promotes fullness of life for all creation in an attitude of dialogue and service, recognizing
the diverse ways in which God operates his redemption in history. This analysis begins first with a panoramic rereading of how the link between mission and ecumenism has occurred, recalling milestones in the biblical witness as well as in the history of the church. The analysis continues by highlighting some of the current challenges for
the understanding and practice of mission and ecumenism.
