Abundant evidence indicates that theological research done by students in seminaries in Latin America have entered into crisis, which is reflected in the different research topics that address both undergraduate and graduate students. What may be happening is one of two situations: either we have diversified the theological theme to the point of blending it with other disciplines, OR the theological reflection, as eminently theological reflection, and research, as eminently theological research, are reaching exhaustion and therefore are in crisis. One piece of evidence is the fact that theological issues are being addressed from disciplines such as counseling, psychology and sociology, to name only a few. You can also highlight the
fact that novice researchers are addressing the research from a field approach which requires very little use of the theoretical foundation and thoughtful and critical analysis specific to theology and philosophy. Topics such as church growth, discipleship, counseling techniques, evangelistic strategies, church administration, popular religiosity, among others, are clogging the shelves of the libraries of our seminaries. I cannot deny the usefulness and necessity of these issues as they are part of theological academia and church life, but
what is truly undeniable is the near abandonment of high theological themes by student researchers. Both themes are important, therefore we must cultivate and develop each one. - Downloads
