- Abstract
-
This study reconstructs the readings of the members and sympathizers of the Methodist societies in the Rio de la Plata in the last decade of the 19th century. Starting from a catalog that the Mission offered to its adherents, we traced the authors through the data dispersed in the Annual Report of the Missionary Board, the study programs, the newspapers, the lists of the publishing collections in Mexico and the United States, and the personal and institutional libraries. From the research we obtained a list of works translated into Spanish covering studies of theology, history, controversy and devotional literature. The research is relevant because it allows us to account for the circulation circuits of the texts and their importance for the development of the mission. On the other hand, it helps us to understand the diffusion of ideas, the diversity of opinions and some definite emphases of the Protestant discourse.
