- Abstract
-
Prophetic religion is an integral part of African American Christianity. Black women and men have renounced the racial and spiritual contradictions embedded within the fabric of the U.S. society. They have participated in truly creating a democratic nation and world. The thought and influenceof scholar-activist W. E. B. Du Bois is examined to highlight his still relevant contribution to the problem of the color line. Du Bois, along with Howard Thurman, are appropriated as foundational figuresin the construction of a Christian prophetic spirituality that informs the engagement of race relations and race politics for the academy in the 21st century.
